It is hard to imagine a multifunction printer without a fax capability. However, this missing feature does not limit the functionality of Canon imageCLASS D1120. With this missing function, it still commends a price tag of a little less than $500. It has almost the same characteristics as its more expensive siblings in terms of output, print speed, and paper handling. What constitutes the bulk of this printer’s cost is the input and multi-purpose tray as well as the duplexing ADF. The latter is the core of quick scanning while the former has a total of 550 sheets of paper capacity combined. If the unit is a bit costly, savings are derived from Canon toner generic as an alternative consumable.
Connectivity to the Canon imageCLASS D1120 can be through a USB cable and Ethernet for LAN. The three functions included in the unit are scan, copy, and print. There are scanning and printing capabilities for USB-key. The slanted front panel contains alphanumeric buttons, 4-way contoller, and 5-line display screen. The D1120 is able to print on cards, plain paper, envelope, and labels. The process becomes more cost-effective with generic discount toner installed. The first printed copy comes out within 8 seconds.
The unit’s engine rating is 35 pages per minute and it was tested with 9.5 effective pages per minute. This is an above average speed not found in the competition. This activity makes the unit consume 1.1 KW of power when it’s operational. However, it is Energy Star qualified giving it a nod for energy efficiency.
